Union Institute & University
Given its founding mission in 1964, Union Institute & University (Union) has focused on academic excellence, creativity, diversity, and integrity. However, at its core, Union has stayed committed to social justice for advancing and promoting a culturally pluralistic, equitable, and interdependent world. Ultimately, the Institute seeks to realize significant and demonstrable progress toward social justice by engendering equality, valuing diversity, and committing to an innovative teaching and learning culture that reduces economic disparities and eliminates racism.
Integral to Union and TIES’ relationship are united foundations of social justice and ecological justice. The Institute for Social Justice at Union Institute & University applies theory to practice through scholar-practitioners, philanthropists, policymakers, and other leaders committed to promoting social justice and equity in the United States and globally through research, education, and policy.
Union Institute & University, in alignment with TIES principles, offers educational programs for working adults who want to achieve their professional goals and pursue a lifetime of learning, service, and social responsibility. Since its founding, Union has been a leader in the development and delivery of outstanding distance education, undergraduate, master’s, and doctoral degree programs, in addition to a variety of new certificate programs.
Since 1996, TIES has developed the academic content for both the Montessori Integrative Learning and Integrative Learning Masters programs. Through a holistic process and an eco-cosmological context, TIES provides delivery of both graduate programs. Union is responsible for academic oversight and validation, student registration, tuition payments, and financial aid. Upon successfully completing all program requirements, Union Institute & University grants the two degrees: Masters in Integrative learning and Masters in Montessori Integrative Learning.
A compelling continuing degree option for the TIES learner is Union’s Doctor of Education (Ed.D.) degree. The Ed.D. offers majors in Educational Leadership and Higher Education (pre-K – 12). Two embedded certificates, including a certificate in Social Justice, add an extra level of value and distinction. In addition to a world-class doctoral education, Union offers the 24-25-26 Advantage allowing students to complete their Ed.D. in as little as 24 months when they transfer 25 cross-credits from TIES’ Masters.
In addition to the Ed.D., Union Institute & University also offers a seamless transition for TIES graduates into the distinguished Ph.D. program. Doctoral concentrations include Educational Studies, Ethical & Creative Leadership, Humanities & Culture, and Public Policy & Social Change.
A private nonprofit university with international outreach, Union Institute & University is regionally accredited by the Higher Learning Commission. The main campus is located in Cincinnati, Ohio, and the university has satellite centers located in Florida and California.
